Three people from Contra Costa County are among 30 Bay Area African-Americans who will be honored this week by CityFlight Newsmagazine and Safeway for contributions to their communities. They are nominees for awards recognizing the 10 most influential African-Americans in the Bay Area.

The three local honorees are Charles H. Smith, president and CEO of the telecommunications company SBC West in San Ramon; Bill A. Duffy, president of BDA Sports Management in Walnut Creek; and Richmond Mayor Irma L. Anderson.

The monthly magazine, which largely addresses black issues, and the supermarket chain will recognize the honorees today at the Herbst Theatre in San Francisco.
