100 Black Men of Silicon Valley, Inc. Honors CityFlight Media Network™ as the Organization Celebrates Ten Years of Bringing “Good” News to the Bay Area African American Community
SAN JOSE, CA – OCTOBER 12, 2005 – In October
1995, while attending Santa Clara University, John Hilton and a group of friends
embarked upon the task of producing a small newspaper that would reflect the
best aspects of the African American community, which at that time meant San
Jose. Hilton and his friends proudly delivered the small CityFlight Newsmagazine
to San Jose-area colleges and universities, a few churches and a couple barber
and beauty shops. This month, with much pride, CityFlight Media Network celebrates
ten years of bringing positive, constructive and encouraging news to its readers
in the Bay Area and beyond. Under Hilton’s leadership and due to his
strong marketing abilities, the newsmagazine evolved into the overwhelmingly
popular and exceptionally functional CityFlight Media Network - “In
Print, Online and In Person™.” On Saturday, October 15, 2005,
during its 11th annual Scholarship and Awards Gala, 100 Black Men of Silicon
Valley, Inc. presented president and CEO John Hilton with its “Small
Business of the Year” award in recognition of its efforts and achievements
in the African American community.
100 Black Men of Silicon Valley, Inc. president and chair Bill Kindricks said,
“This year's Small Business Leadership honoree, John Hilton, and CityFlight
Media Network are perfect examples of why we do what we do.” Kindricks
continued, “We've watched John grow from his days at Bellarmine College
Preparatory to his years at Santa Clara University, and now, CityFlight’s
tenth anniversary. The 100 Black Men of Silicon Valley is extremely proud
of Mr. Hilton and the contributions he and the CityFlight family have made,
and continue to make to the black community."
“It is especially gratifying for CityFlight to be recognized by one
of the South Bay’s premier organizations since the South Bay is where
it all started. We are accustomed to being the presenter of awards to our
community’s contributors versus receiving them,” Hilton remarked.
“On behalf of my brother Tim Hilton, Executive Director of Flight Community
Services, Inc., and the CityFlight family, I humbly accept this recognition
as a shining symbol of our staff’s many years of dedication, as well
the support of CityFlight’s sponsors, advertisers and subscribers, which
has sustained us for an entire decade!”
Much more than just a news publication, CityFlight’s arm reaches throughout the Bay Area in support of its community. CityFlight’s goal has always been to write about and acknowledge the positive people, places and events in the Bay Area African American community, and to encourage and be an example for its youth.
